Businesses come to us looking for new ways to keep their day-to-day packaging and productions operating smoothly. We were excited about our latest client solution that led to the development of a fully realized new Nursery Tag material and labeling solution for plant-centric and nursery businesses. Problem:

We received a call from a company in a panic back in January. They are in the plant business with their flagship product being launched in April. They wanted an on-demand label solution for their plant tags with a unique shape. Their current label vendor said it could not be done. So luckily, they picked up the phone and called PaladinID. After hearing their dilemma, we formulated a solution, including our new label material, thermal transfer printer, and ribbons to meet their needs.

Solution:

We presented our prospect with a turn-key label solution that solved their label printing problem.  We formulated a plan using a thermal transfer printer, special polyester tag stock, and high-quality ribbon to print small text and graphics. 

Label Stock:

Typically in the plant or nursery business, the standard material used is a thick plastic tag or plant stake. These are very costly for the setup/tooling along with the expense of the label material. We took a different approach. We suggested our new 10-mil polyester tag material that was perfect for the application. We were able to produce the exact shape they required using this polyester tag.

Thermal Transfer Printer:

Since the plant tag stock was so thick, we decided we needed a more specialized label printer than your traditional Zebra or Sato label printer. We opted for the Toshiba (TEC) B-EX4T 300 DPI, near-edge label printer. This printer is designed to handle thicker media and prints the images, text, and barcodes crystal clear.

Ribbons:

We are using a near-edge wax/resin ribbon specifically made for use with this polyester tag stock. It is smudge-resistant and prints crisp clear images and text on these plant tags.

After extensive testing and setup, the customer approved the solution and had a very successful product launch in April. We felt like we were part of their company during these past few months with daily calls and emails. The customer is thrilled with the solution and how executed our plan.

Summary:

Our final outcome was an excellent solution for our client with custom tags made of rugged yet lightweight 10 mil white polyester, resulting in an extremely durable solution suitable for even harsh environments. With enhanced features like ultra-low temperature resistance and UV-stabilized colorants that won’t fade over time, these tags will stand up against extended sun exposure, chemical treatments, and/or frequent handling — all without compromising the appearance of their products.
