They needed weather-resistant, pre-printed outdoor color labels that could run through a thermal transfer printer like Zebra, Datamax, Sato, or Intermec, and last in all conditions: cold, heat, moisture, and direct sunlight. At the time, no solution existed for this type of durability for on-demand thermal transfer labels.

But all the fade-resistant inks available at the time only lasted 2-3 years outdoors. The customer told me “eight different suppliers told us what we needed didn’t exist—but we weren’t willing to accept that”.

We can now offer labels with most colors that withstand sun and harsh weather conditions while retaining their vibrancy for up to 15 years.

How Our Outdoor Label Solution Works

Our weather-resistant label solution consists of two parts:

1. The base label with fade-resistant colored inks is printed on press.
2. A matte or gloss thermal transfer imprintable overlam is then applied to the label allowing customers to print their own on-demand variable data.
