Epson C6500 Was the Solution!

When you need to add color, symbols and/or warnings to your black and white labels, the Epson C6500 might be the best solution!

The Need

They needed to add variable color to their current labels. This is becoming much more common with the changes in labeling requirements across several industries. It typically involves adding colored symbols and warnings. In this case, the customer needed to print red diamonds and other colored graphics or symbols on their labels.

Naturally, they wanted to stay with thermal transfer technology and asked if there was a two-color thermal printer on the market.  I told them there was and asked what sizes they needed to print?  They had:

• 4″ x 10″ (they had over 10 skus in this size alone!)
• 5″ x 10″
• 8.5″ x 11″

The Best Solution: Epson C6500

The largest two-color thermal transfer label printer on the market today only prints up to a 4″ wide label, so I suggested moving to inkjet technology.

They were very reluctant about inkjet simply because they were unaware of all the new advances that have been made over the past two years and they had never heard of (or seen) the new Epson C6500.

I requested several of their labels in a high-resolution PDF so I could print some samples. Once they saw first-hand what this printer could do, they were blown away. They were very impressed with the vibrant color, crisp texts, and bar codes that the Epson C6500 can produce.

The real test was to see if the label and inks could hold up to their testing.  Since the Epson C6500 using a pigmented ink, the printing is very durable, fade-resistant, and stands up to many chemical and cleaning solutions that the products have to endure once labeled.  They were thrilled.

The Real Advantage

So at first, the printer solved the problem of printing their large labels in two colors.  But that’s not all! Now they have the ability to print in many colors.  The even bigger benefit of using this printer was for their 4″ x 10″ labels.

We reduced their inventory of over 100 skus to one. 

Now instead of having all of these parts on the shelf (with high minimum order quantity and lead-times) this inkjet label printer was a great solution.

The customer was happy and the sourcing manager could not believe how much time and labor this solution was going to reduce in his department.  For 80% of their labeling needs, we will have reduced the amount of labels to 3 sizes.
